Fantastic trip to Margate, the weather and tides were perfect, leaving at 6.30am we were at the pier at 7.30. Due to three rather large boats in the shipping channel we started to cross at the Mulberry harbour. On the way over to Kent we were joined by two porpoises playing in the water.
We set a course for Warden Point and let the wind and tide help us across, there were some interesting currents where the Swale empty’s which pushed us northwards so we were about 3 miles of shore and moving really quick. We took the decision to go non stop and arrived in Margate at 2pm rowing in 15 minute sets for seven and half hours. The Commodore and committee at Margate Yacht Club were fantastic, they sent out a safety boat to see us in and had cooked fresh soup and bread to eat in the Yacht Club after our showers. This is definitely a do-able row and Margate have asked when we are coming back!
